Cesar Chavez made a difference for all Latinos

Before there was “Yes We Can,” there was “Si Se Puede.”

Coined by Cesar Chavez and United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta, the Spanish phrase that translates to “Yes, it can be done” has become an international chant.

” ‘No se puede’ was the default, and Cesar was able to change that,” said LeRoy Chatfield, a veteran Sacramento activist who worked alongside the late labor crusader. “It’s not a slogan, it’s a mind-set that says you can accomplish something that others say is impossible.”

Born March 31, 1927, Chavez dedicated his life to helping American farmworkers.

His life is celebrated as an official holiday in eight states, including California. read more [sacbee.com]

Roman Catholic priest Helped Document Harassment
A nice turn of events in EAST HAVEN, Conn. as the Roman Catholic priest gets his prayers herd.

Prosecutors dropped charges on Thursday against a Roman Catholic priest who was arrested while he was videotaping police officers here in an attempt to document what he called harassment of Hispanics.

The dismissal came as parishioners of the priest’s church announced that they had filed a complaint with the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division seeking an investigation of the East Haven town police on claims of brutality and racial profiling of Hispanics.
