The June 2009 cover of Los Angeles Magazine

The June 2009 cover of Los Angeles Magazine - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is a Failure

The political elite are starting to get ready for the California gubernatorial election and people are starting to take sides and Kit Rachlis looks like he might be going for Gavin Newsom. with The June cover of Los Angeles Magazine the magazine’s editor [in] chief Kit Rachlis is trying to stop Antonio Villaraigosa from competing with a more liberal and a clean cut Gavin Newsom.

i cant say anything bad about Gavin Newsom even if he had personal love drama as did Villaraigosa , it remains just that “his” anything out side of personal issues is fair game.

the [laobserved.com] is loving this story.. especially considering they went all out on Villaraigosa over his love triangle with a sexy Latina.

“Mr. Mayor, the city you have sworn to lead is in crisis. It is time you put a stop to the betrayals and fecklessness. Time you resist the urge to bound up the career ladder…Call a press conference and tell us in language that contains no loopholes that you’ll stay with us until the end of your term.

It looks like politics is going to get nasty in California.

Latinos are now the largest group in The San Joaquin Valley

The San Joaquin Valley is now a solidly majority-minority region - one in which Latinos increasingly represent the largest ethnic group, figures released today by the U.S. Census Bureau show.

In an announcement Wednesday morning that updated county-by-county reports on the age, sex, racial and ethnic makeup of communities nationwide, the bureau said six counties across the country - including Stanislaus - became majority-minority in 2008. Minorities already made up more than half of the population in San Joaquin, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced and Tulare counties.

Regional demographics can reveal social and economic trends and help policymakers plan for future needs. Locally, the figures depict a young and growing Latino population, one for which agencies already have adapted services but also one that some advocates say hasn’t received adequate attention.

In San Joaquin County, whites account for about 39 percent of residents. In 2000, they represented 48 percent of the population. read more
