Ok if people can speculate on poll’s then surely i can do the same on quotes and articles , after Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa got out from the gubernatorial race Could Cathleen sounds like she enjoys kicking the guy while he’s down and even pointing out the obvious. and let me say pointing out the obvious doesn’t make you a smart reporter.

Cathleen Decker: But in the latest Times Poll, voters offer the Democratic mayor a bracing jolt of reality as he prepares to start his second term. In short, they appear to be saying: “Get a grip. If we have to give up our ambitions and hunker down for survival, so too should you. And so should the government you lead.” read more

The Racist from Boston Jay Severin is expected to apologize on the air when he resumes his weekday afternoon time slot on WTKK-FM, station officials said. It looks like politics is going to get nasty in California.

The San Joaquin Valley is now a solidly majority-minority region - one in which Latinos increasingly represent the largest ethnic group, figures released today by the U.S. Census Bureau show.

In an announcement Wednesday morning that updated county-by-county reports on the age, sex, racial and ethnic makeup of communities nationwide, the bureau said six counties across the country - including Stanislaus - became majority-minority in 2008. Minorities already made up more than half of the population in San Joaquin, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced and Tulare counties.

Regional demographics can reveal social and economic trends and help policymakers plan for future needs. Locally, the figures depict a young and growing Latino population, one for which agencies already have adapted services but also one that some advocates say hasn’t received adequate attention.

In San Joaquin County, whites account for about 39 percent of residents. In 2000, they represented 48 percent of the population. read more

The Federal Trade Commission said Monday that it had accused a Bakersfield-based mortgage banking company of charging Latinos higher prices for mortgage loans than it charged non-Latino whites. The agency alleged that the discrepancies could not be explained by applicants’ credit histories or underwriting risk - read more
